In Runaway Overture, set to Richard Wagner’s Overture to Tannhäuser, a young artist sets out from her home to find adventure, while an aging painter struggles to let go of his dreams. This acclaimed film by Adam Grannick premiered at the Richard Wagner Museum during the 2015 Bayreuth Festival.
Runaway Overture is the second production in the film with live orchestra series by Filmelodic™, which includes Last Night’s Symphonie and Sam & Barb’s School for Scandal. Appealing to younger crowds and seasoned concertgoers alike, Filmelodic’s™ visual narratives “attempt to dissolve stereotypes about the target audience of classical music,” explains director Adam Grannick, that use “the international language of music to take the traditional place of dialogue.” Each film explores universal themes familiar to a 21st century audience, such as pilgrimage, jealousy, and love.
The film, full score, parts, click track and a technical rider are available under license from G. Schirmer, Inc. Filmelodic™, a production division of Adam Grannick Multimedia, LLC, is a series of new stories drawn from classical music and screened with live musicians.
